Stop moisture problems before they start!

I don't know about others, but I have my gear in the basement. I keep beer and fruits and things that need cold storage in the basement. Why?

The basement is moist and cold; good for your beer, not for your gear.

I have a dehumidifier, which takes the moisture, but I've been educated to a new tip that never entered my mind...and it's great protection for your MPC in finished or unfinished rooms.

You know when you buy shoes or electronics...they include those little pouches that say "DO NOT EAT" or "DESICCANT". Open up your MPC and put one of those inside, there is lots of room for it in an MPC 4000. Your moisture problem is solved for at least five years.

One 10 gram (1" x 1") pouch can absorb all the moisture in a 10 cu. ft container. Your 4000 has way less volume than that. I've personally placed these silica gel sacs in all my equpiment (the G4, the 4K, the Fantom, the mixer, etc.). Because they are so small, you can use them anywhere.

I just picked up a pack from a factory in Toronto, 20 pads for $5.00, a steal in my mind.

Check your closets, your trash cans, whereever. If you got it use it, a $0.50 pouch could save thousands of dollars of equipment...sounds good to me.

That's a damn good piece of advice. What about temp? Does it get really cold in your basement in the winter? We don't have basements in California.

Good advice. I think my basement is what killed my old 2000. Maybe I should keep my beers and smokes away from the gear as well.

I'm guessing it's humid in Cali, so you might want to use them to cause the moisture could build up in your unit. Marlies and Budweisers are not recommended either.

I'm not sure the technique you use is the best one

'co the silica gels keep the humidity inide them until they saturate and that mean it keeps the humidity in your devuces

the best thing to do would be to put these silica gels around and/or very near each unit, so thtat the humidity get caught in the gel pack and not inside your gear

That's a good point too. I was told that the moisture is absorbed through the paper and is collected inside so that it doesn't condense outside the gel pack, but I'll confirm again.

You can reuse the silica gel pads. Just stick em in your oven for half an hour / hour or so on low heat and all the moisture will have evaporated out ready for them to be re-used.
