The laser harp sample is available on the internet ;)
the best is to have an elka synthex to make it live!
no I need this units to play different samples (one for each note) when connected to our laser harp. the MC-808 can't do that.

Genesis92 wrote:Hi everybody, like explained in a topic I've recently ordered an MPC4K for a good price. but the other guy not really take care of the MPC.
so I've completely disassembled the unit for cleaning and make some improvements.
I take 972 pictures so it will take some time to select the best ones, redim and add info.
the unit was very dirty.
so I've completely cleaned
- the unit
- all the plastic buttons with teeth brush
- changed all the 6mm tact switches
- removed the old dim LCD CCFL tube and replaced it by a white led strip
- built the white led driver
- changed the color of the led indicators for fun and it's cool by night
- changed the fan by a very quieter one
- changed the zip reader by a 120Gb HDD
- changed the grey CDRW by a black DVD writer
- added a cover at the Zip250 hole with HDD activity inducator to avoid turning off the unit when the drive is active
- make a pad circuit repair with graphite conductive coating

here are some pics :)
the unit after buying it

and after working on it:

you can compare with the first picture LCD brightness

I hope it will help some guys to find solution to their problem with their units

Now that's an upgrade worth having! That screen is everything!
Now I want one! :worthy:

It's not really complex to do. you just need to have some electronic skills :)
I can perhaps build a driver and white leds assembled PCBs but I must know how much people will be interested to buy it to have an idea of the cost.

And even with this complete PCBs set the user must disassemble the LCD unit to install it.
but yes! it improve the LCD brightness because the CCFL bulb have less efficiency with time and you can't replace it without the complete LCD module.

Excellent job and info Genesis92!
You are just like me, when I get new gear, I tear into it to thoroughly clean it and then mod it to make it better. Then I share my findings with others for continuous knowledge on vintage gear.

BTW... can you post pics of your MPC4000 without going through FaceBook? I don't have FB so I am missing out on your pictures.

Disregard... I hacked my wife's FB account and saw the pics. :smoker:

Cheers mate! Image

That LED driver board is awesome, and the results shown in the picture make the screen so much cleaner.
