I couldn't find any pictures to show you, but what the person above showed is a tiny part of the piano roll. They're partially right, in that Im sure there's all sorts of stuff a modern daw can do that the mpc cant do (although, honestly, Ive never come across anything in Logic that is straight impossible on the mpc4k), the biggest pain with the mpcs piano roll is that you can't select 8 bars of notes and shift/relocate/whatever it is you want to do as easily nor as quickly as you can with a mouse.
However, once you get to know your way around the machine, it's plenty fast enough. The person above showed the drum piano roll, which is designed to basically be a visual 808-style programing, with the
"zoom" being the Timing Correct (1/8th is zoomed way out, 1/64 is way in). The drum version is designed for percussive sounds, one offs, loops, etc etc. You can move shift timing, erase, replace, edit all the paramters (time, velocity, etc etc) all within a few button presses. You can also step edit.
On the main page, if you change your TYPE on the front page from Drum to Inst, you get a more traditional looking piano roll. Obviously this is designed for more melodic instruments. The same zoom/edit stuff applies, I can't really come up with any sort of midi sequencing stuff it can't do.
Then, beyond that, there is a parameter on top that says View. Changing this from notes to cc, qlink, etc etc, give you the "piano roll" (if thats the right term for non-notes) view/editing of whatever category youre in (the person aboves second picture). If you want to get really precise with your filters or need to sequence a fx parameter on an external piece of gear, this is the place to do it.
DAWs didn't reinvent the wheel, they just made the screens look different. The midi side of logic, cubase, or anything else Ive used, is usually directly comprable to what the 4k can do, you just have to figure out Akais terminology, how it relates to whatever you're using now, and things will really start to click.
