4000 stereo outputs & fx board sound quality Vs 8 out card

Hi, could someone tell me what the sound quality of the stereo outs, fx board and the internal digital summing on 4000 is like, please?

Is it capable of producing a decent stereo mix of pre-master quality? Is the stereo out strong/detailed/balanced enough? Or is the 8 outs board and mixer + fx essential?

Also, does it have a built-in phono pre-amp for sampling?

The analog outputs have a slight color. I use both, its more evident when you track out all your sounds.

Ive been doing fine with the stereo outs on mine.Kinda nice to squash everything out through the same path.Binds it all together.Phono ins so no real need for a mixer too.Mic inputs work well also.Definitely a pro workstation all round!!!The 2000 does not amp the deck tho.

& i didn't find many good EFX yet - maybe i should try the re-sampling option with the pre-defined EFX settings (more)

stereo out is hot - more power than the (8) ADAT outs which sound sterile & clean

Yes the fx sound plain and boring to begin with and most people dont rate them.BUT.......they are actually very good and sound nothing like plugins.I cant say ive tried them all but for instance the tape delay,digital eq,and even the reverb ectect can be tweaked up nicely.Its up to you and your ears.

The stereo outs and the digital stereo outs sound very close. When you track the outs separately is when you can hear a bigger difference. Im going to use the analog outs when using the multi outs. The fx board is ok, some are great. Reverbs are almost all terrible. ; ) There are some nice ones also like the chorus delay. Theres even pitch correction.

ive only used the reverb for quick blasts as in dub music.plus the tapes delay.sounds gritty and raw.

Not sure exactly what you mean maybe......but yeah the filters are heavy quaking speaker breaking.

There is 2 pole, 2pole +, 4 pole, 4 pole +. There is high pass,low pass, band pass. Combined with the cutoff frequency you can dial some nice sounds.

Ahhh a noise gate.
