Hi, I bought an mpc 4000 from ebay which the vendor assured me works. It powers up and does seem to work to an extent. I'm new to Akai samplers and MPCs in general (am an ASR user) so I've been referring to the manual as well as just navigating around the menus etc. I can make a sequence, load samples onto pads from the internal drive and see the waveform in the edit window etc - but after several nights of trying I haven't been able to hear anything. As I said I'm new to the Akai system of samples / programmes / multis / zones and the manual uses those terms with no explanation of what they actually mean - so I'm very open to the idea that I haven't routed anything to the outputs but still I do think I've found the list of output routing possibilities and can't hear anything through the main outputs or the headphones - I feel like I should at least be able to hear the click track when I can see the little metronome icon moving - ? Also when it's in record mode and I'm running audio into the machine the meters on the mpc don't move and I can't monitor the audio - (it's not switched to the phono inputs so it's not that).... Anyway, so I'm wondering if anyone can suggest where to start troubleshooting? The machine's on O.S. 1.45 - should I first try to update the O.S ? Maybe that'll fix the outputs? I found the command in the global menu that the manual says resets the machine to factory settings, but when i press do it it doesn't seem to do anything (unless part of the process is that it takes a really long time and the machine is unresponsive in the interim?) - pressing cancel doesn't seem to cause a response either and I've had to switch the machine on and off from here. - I'm certainly prepared to read the manual from front to back, as well as the Z8 manual (which seems better anyway?) - but I'd rather not go into that more than necessary unless I have a working machine - so if there was someway I could figure out if this machine actually works first.... any thoughts or ideas would be GREATLY appreciated! thanks!!
