ZIP DRIVE ??

Will zip disk sounds made for the 2000 and xl work on the 4000 and which zip disk should i get does irt matter 250 or 100

I use zip disk from my old xl w the 4k, no problems, u can even edit the zipdrive through akaisys, one thing I did notice though.. I tried loading all programs&sounds & all seq/song file from the xl that had previously not loaded right, loaded fine via akaisys..

Use the 250 zip drive. AMIC tested out different zip drives and the 250 performed the best. A note about that, this was with ineternal zip drives. How USB zip drives work with the MPC could be different.

I use Zip 250 with usb and have tried it SCSI on my 4000. So far everything is working fine. USB is quicker and more friendly though. Just so you know, Iomega says that a 100mb Zip disk will act and load slower in a 250 drive, but still work.

Sorry if this sounds stupid but are you saying you can install a internal zip drive in the mpc 4000? If so, how do you do it?

It shouldnt be any different than having a cd burner or a harddrive inside the 4000. If the zip drive is standard IDE and compatible with the 4000 I dont see a reason for it not to work... Maybe someone with real experience can help you better though.. Just have to ask though, WHY would anyone want a zip drive in the 4000 instead of a huge hd and a cd burner?

I have a friend that has a broken mpc 2000, and he has a few zip disk with songs that some people want to buy, so he wants to use my mpc 4000 to access the songs so that he can sell them. I don't have a zip drive so he was wondering if it was possible to put his zip drive into my mpc 4000.

ah.. i thought you just wanted a zip drive in your 4000 period... I seen a couple people wanting that before and I never got it. Just thought Id ask incase I missed out on something. But yeah, what you need to do makes alot of sense, esepcially if its beats already sold. Cant you simply just get a usb zip drive and return it when your done and get your money back?

ONE PROBLEM, strait up MPC 2000 zips will not function correctly on the MPC 4000. I was having this problem and got some info from this site but also from Akai. I can load my MPC 2k zips to the 4000 and pgm seems fine but seq are jacked. Akai dude says ol 2000 info is not compatible with the 4000. So, you can load pgm and re-work everything or get the 2000 up and running again. H.Z.
