Hi Mohammed,
The Simul Play is something that is brought to the MPC 4000 from previous version
of the MPC family. It is a crucial feature, in my honest opintion. It has several useful functions that I will see if I can elaborate on.
The Simul Play block has 3 parts to it.
A) SimulPlay field which lets you turn SimulPlay on or off.
B) Seq/Song filed which lets you select whether you want it to be a Song or Sequence
that is played.
C) The Sequence or Song Number - which lets you select any sequence or song in memory.
Useful Functions:
If A) is to ON, then B)&C) It also allows one to play another sequence or song at the exact same time, as the
current sequence. It is important if you use this feature that you select for your
Tempo to be a "Master" tempo rather then the "Tempo of the Song. You can do this
by selecting the "Master Tempo" key that is on the MPC 4000. This will play both
sequences at the tempo that is listed in the "MAIN" field. Otherwise if one is
at 142bmps and other is at 136bpms, then you'll get a classic dj trainwreck

But
you could be creative and turn off this feature and play 1 Song/Seq at 120bpm and the
other at 60bpm

but make sure you do your math correctly if you do that...
One of the useful things that I find about this feature is that as Akai has NOT implemented
the seperate Length per Track feature that Rob of Netherlands has detailed in a doc
and sent to Akai, one has the ability to play 2 sequences with different lengths. So
for example, I can make all my music and drum looping a 16 or 32 bar sequence, and have
another song that contains my vocal parts all cut up and layed out and sequenced, and
that is 256 bar loop. If wanted to do this in 1 song/seq, I would have to copy and paste
all the music and drums so that they were a 256 bar loop to match the vocals.
Instead with the SimulPlay feature, I can write a number of 2, 4 , 8, 16, 32 bar Drum and Music sequences, switchbetween those in the "Next Sequence" screen or "Next Sequence" field in the SimulPlay block.
This allows me much more freedom in my live set then writing out all my music and drum
changes into a song, so I can change them live, depending on how the crowd is reacting. It let's me have my Vocal Track (just an example could be anything, just really a longer or shorter sequence) going, and let's me decide where the rest of the music
flows along with it. Very creative in a live set. If you don't use long vocal parts, then you
could do the same as above with Music on 1 sequence and Drum Tracks on another.
Then use the "Next Sequence" Page to change the Drums and the SimulPlay field to
change the Music.
One thing that I do wish I had the ability to do with this, was go to either one of the songs/sequences tracks mute fields. Only the Main Sequences Track Mute fields
are available. So you have to prepare your sequence accordingly that will be playing
in the SimulPlay page.
Also, remember that it plays until you turn it off. So you'll have to manually switch
A) to Off, so that it will turn off.
This can also be useful feature, as you can use the SimulPlay song/sequence to use
as a seque between 2 songs, if you're doing a non stop kind of set. So you can
Be playing song/sequence 1 of your set, then use SimulPlay to play a sequence that
contains the elements that from Song/Seq 1 and Song/Seq 2 that you want during
the Seque/Mix, then you can mute all the tracks on Song/Seq 1, go to "Next Seq"
page and select Song/Seq 2 (which has already been saved with all Track Mutes Muted)
which will then switch the main sequence from Song/Seq1 to Song/Seq 2 all the while
Song/Seq 3 (which is a prepared track made for this mixdown) is playing, then
you can start using unmuting the TrackMutes for Song/Seq2 and bringing in that track,
until you want to manaully turn off the Song/Seq 3 that was used during the MixCrossover.
That way you can have a seamless mix between your tracks. Another great thing
for a live set. Your audience will never have stop dancing between songs, which
makes for better experience for them, as they can see not only the elements of each
individual song, but also the how you piece all the songs together into 1 complete
whole organic being.
Those are what I use the SimulPlay for. Only been using the MPC for a whlie, so will
post up again if I come across any other usefulness for this Block. Others, please
post if you use for different puposes, as I'm always open for new ideas
Cheers,
Dave
