recording external CC data

I use "record" heavy incoming midi (NRPN) data so that it will replace rather than merge the existing data. But then it flips into "overdub" as the sequence repeats and I get a "midi buffer full" message - then this sequence will not play properly. WTF?

What is the best way to deal with external controller data so it functions how I want it to, is always replacing existing data and/or stops recording at the end of the sequence and does not fukk up the midi buffers?

BTW I tried externally thinning the incoming midi NRPN data but it didn't make any difference to this problem

I have tried swearing at it, which sometimes works, but on this occassion did not.

try swearing more agressifly, use hardcore words and slutty nurse jokes, that usually works if not you can always just set the sequence loop to off

ok, this is just maybe a work around... if you are just trying to record over a 2 bar sequence it may be a bit tricky cause you will automatically go into overdub at the end of the loop.

maybe if you build a full sequence or song, and then convert that into seq
and after that record all your tweaking over the whole song on a separate track it could work... it's not great for on the fly ideas but if you record the cc data on another track to give you ideas and then decide you want to tweak it to perfection once the song is finished, record the cc on another track...

I don't know if there is an option to choose whether you merge or replace cc data.

Hi Richard,
Not sure if this will work or not, but maybe try thinning (filtering) the Outgoing
midi data from the MPC to the Andromeda. I'm guestimating that maybe
what you are seeing, is when it flips to the beginning of the loop, it starts sending
the data OUT that was recorded, while it is recording the incoming data. Just a guess
but it might be what you are seeing. Then, after you have your sequences recorded,
toggle the filter, so that it's not any more and you can see if it recorded it right or not.

If not, then glide's method is probably the one you'll need to use. Set the Loop to "OFF" and
when it hits the end of the sequence, it stops. So then you should have it recorded correctly.


Keep us posted on your results. I'm about 1/2 way to my Andromeda (MPC 4000 put me
back a few steps :) ), so will be hitting the same problem when I get there.
