Routing Midi channels

I currently have a few midi files that I want to incorporate into my mpc4000 from sonar (just got sonar4) . The problem is that I'm not too sure how to route each individual channel.

What I've done so far was set 2 midi files, one going to channel 1 and one going to channel 2 in Midi In-2, but I'm having a hard time playing channel 2. I went into multi and set Program 1-Trumpets (Midi Ch 2B) and Program 2-Strings (Midi Ch 1B) in Multi Midi (Multi+F3) but I'm still having no luck.

If I go into Midi Monitor (Midi+F4) I see both channels seperated, so I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've got a couple of questions on your issue.

1. Why not , in Sonar, do a Save as or Export (don't have Sonar, so don't know the
specific command) as a Standard Midi file (Select Type 1).

Then transfer this midi file via AkySys to your hardrive. Then load it up, and
Walla, issue resolved, and you didn't even have to delve into Midi Routing.

If there's only parts of the sequence that you want in the MPC 4000 and not everything
that was in Sonar, then use the "CopyTo" function that let's you copy Tracks from
one sequence to another. Then go ahead and load up the Standard Midi FIle that
was saved/exported from Sonar and the go to the specific track that you want
to copy (on the step edit screen) and then highlight the Notes that you want to copy
with the Cursor and select "Copy" which will bring up several soft options, one should
be CopyTo. Transfer all the tracks that you want on the 1 sequence to the new sequence
that you will be using on the MPC>

I think I need to understand your terminology a bit better to understand exactly
what you want.

When you indicate that you set 2 midi files going to channel 1 and the other going
to Channel 2, what exactly do you mean.

Do you mean that you have taken 2 Tracks from a Sequence , and set those
2 different tracks to different Midi Channls? If you just set them to different Midi Channels,
there is no reason to us


also, what are you doing in the Main Screen? Are you setting Track 1 to use Part1
and setting it to the correct midi channel? Are you setting Track 2 to use Part 2 and setting it to the correct midi channel?

thanks for the reply
1. i wanted to figure out midi routing and since i already had these files on my computer i decided to just mess around with it.

2. sorry for the messy terminology, yeah i took two midi tracks in the sequence and routed the first midi track to channel 1 and the second one to channel two.

i believe i'm setting it all up correctly.
