My one wish, a modern hardware sampler with 16-24 outputs. 4 gb memory, 512 voice poly

I agree with your wish list, but I don't agree with your statement about Hardware samplers
being dead. Less used now adays, but not completely dead. There are some
of us out here who still use Samplers, though I agree not as many as before. I'm
glad that I'm a consumer of hardware samplers rather then a manufacturer, but then
again, I'll be losing out, when they lose out.
My MPC 4000 is working without any problems and IS a hardware sampler.

The Roland MV 8000 looks to be doing alright in sales, and it IS a sampler as well.

My being one not into computer based music, I was glad to see Akai continueing forward
with it's legacy. And not doing as EMU did, and making it a PCI card. Now
if they want to make a PCI card that's equivalent and market it along side it, then
that might be a smart move, as people can't trade the VST's as they'll need the
card to run it. And those of us who want physical hardware that works when
are computers are turned off can have what we want as well.

Especially with limitations in the MPC 4000, such as NOT being able to load samples
while playing sequences, makes the 512M that's available get used up quite a bit
if you are using Mult-Sampled, High Bit and Audio rate samples, such as the 256M
Grand Piano sample that comes on the Z8/MPC 4000 CD.

I was considering buying a Z8 to compliment my MPC 4000 and make is so that I do
not HAVE to stop my musci in between songs, most likely still will. If the new
sampler wasn't so much (if it's the reported $6000), but at least the Z8 series
will load Samples while it's playing (as it' doesn't have to deal with a sequence
and timing issues of playing the sequence).

I do have to say, that with the higher bitrate, I"m guessing that the 512M limitation will
be hit fairly soon, but those samples will sound nice :)

Or does this line:
"256 MB of extensible RAM with 512 Mo (SDRAM). "

Mean that it will actually have 768M available? Not much more, but every little bit counts.

You are right. The "mpc" type of machine is still very popular. Rack mount samplers are not.

there will always be a market for hardware samplers. And, over the years we will see this market fluctuate.

I over exagerated hardware samplers being dead. From a business standpoint the market is almost dead.

I too, have considered purchasing a Z8 to supplement my mpc4000. I would rather multitrack my whole beat at one time, tha sync w/ midi.

It seems like 512mb in the new sampler would not be very much at 24/192.

Sales for the Z samplers in the US were and I imagine still are very slow. At AMIC we shipped out maybe 20 units of each (Z4, Z8) every 2 month's. In fact when AMIC closed we shipped all the remaining Z samplers (close to 300) to France. Why France? I have no idea. I am still puzzled by that.

Is anyone else more uninterested in this new product than I am? This looks like it was a dumb product to develop. What's so great about it???? It looks like a Z series sampler with some slightly higher specs. What's the fricken point???? Who cares about this. Akai should stick with samplers in the MPC style. This is where most of their customer base is. No one is going to buy this garbage.

I think that was in the past. I think that rackmount samplers are fading out extremely fast in the marketplace.
