Had the 4k for a week or so now; luvin it!! been using the 2k for the last 5 years and im a bit baffled by some of the 4k's workings.
1. mono/poly : i cant get the samples to trigger in the old 2k "mono" mode. if u tap the pad quickly the sample just overlaps itself rather than each tap retriggering the sample from its start point. I have read the older posts about PROGRAM-> KGMIX->PITCH-> set POLY to 1. Ive tried this and it makes no difference! :x Supakonfuzed!
Is my op. version to blame? its running ver:1.13.
2. I have very limited knowledge of p.c's. my studio setup is based entirely around the 4k (its fitted with 80gig internal storage) and an o2r desk; i.e no p.c/mac is used.
Can anyone xplain how, step by step, i can upgrade the 4k's operating version to wotever the latest is? I know i have to download it off akai's site....... but thats about all i know!
I have a xternal scsi zip drive. do i download onto that and then plug that into the 4k?
Any help 4 a strugglin mpc head?

First off, upgrade your OS right away. The current version is 1.4. Download it at http://www.akaipro.com/main.html . Post your question about mono/poly again after you've upgraded. I use the os loader software on my mac, but you should be able to download it, and install it from a zip or CD.

WHAT'S UP,

I HAD A FRIEND DOWNLOAD IT TO MY EXTERNAL ZIP DRIVE.... THEN I JUST PLUGED IT IN THE FRONT OF THE MPC AND LOADED IT IN....NO PROBLEM.... HE HAD THE USB CONNECTOR IN FOR HIS EXTERNAL ZIP DRIVE... IT MAD IT VERY EASY.......

AND I HAVE DONE THE SAME WITH SETTING IT TO ONE... AND I KINDA UNDERSTAND YOUR PROBLEM... I AM VERY NEW AS WELL AND I HOPE TO GET PAST MY LEARNING CURVE.......

WHEN I BOUGHT THE 2000 YEARS AGO... I HAD A HOMIE WITH ONE THE NEXT BLOCK OVER... THIS MADE LIFE ALOT EASIER BECAUSE HE HAD HIS FOR 5 MONTHS BEORE I GOT MINE AND SHOWED ME MADE TRICK....

I AM BETTER AT HANDS ON LEARNING RATHER THAN READING THE MANUAL...... IT TAKES ME SLIGHTLY LONGER TO LEARN SOME SHIT....

BUT THERE IS THIS FORUM....... THANK GOD

cheers lads!! better upgrade asap then!
ive only scratched the surface of the 4k but, and i am a massive fan of the 2k, this new box rocks!! It has got a steep learning curve, and thats b4 the bugs tie your head in knots, but i do think that akai have taken the mpc format and pushed it way beyond and above the 2k. Luvin it!!
big up the forums 2!!! :D
