Ive been trying to format a 40 gig Maxtor with MPC and after the format it still says unknown volume. I tried the format in dos and same result when i put the 40 gig back to the 4000. I tried it with a 80gig Maxtor also with both technics and same result... Please if some one could help me i would appreciate it!

I have heard NOTHING but problems with MAXTOR drives and the MPC. Get a Western Digital or a Seagate!!!!

You are suppose to format the HD connected to your MPC not your computer.

You need to either format the HD using your MPC or with Windows 98 wich works with FAT32, wich you need.
If it doesnt work, change your HD with another brand. Maxtor aint good for MPC, but also very shi*tty for PC. Stay away from Maxtors!! Only HD's wich crashed here are Maxtors. In MPC and in PC several times..

I had that too with a Maxtor.. Only I didnt waited for 3 days
Some months later the HD just crashed in a pc..
