This is from an Akai Professional that posts on EZ board. You may know him as "Sean W". He knows his stuff and is basicly the US Ambasador for Akai :) Anyway, here is his post on the correct type of RAM for the 4000

"Memory type for samplers Z4, Z8 et MPC4000 is only:

* DIMM 168pin
* CL2 (CAS2)
* PC100 or PC133
* 256MB
* 32x64
* RAM type : 16x8

(model CM654S256-133C2)
"

Hope that helps. By the way go to PRICEWATCH.COM and put "CM654S256-133C2" in the search paramater and you will find tons of places all put in order starting from the cheapest that with the RAM he said to get. It shouldn't cost more then about $70-$80 for a 256M chip. Good luck.
