"ECHO" QUESTION

Hello all.....I'm some what new to the site....and I went through the posts looking for a clear answer to this with no luck.....maybe I missed something(probably).....I also went throught the manual and was having trouble locating the info I needed to achieve this.....if it's in the manual and somebody knows where feel free to let me know.....at any rate....I'm using the 4k SD w/ an Andromeda A6.......how and where do you set the 4k to "echo" notes played on the A6(or any other synth) while in record mode( playing those note while in over dub)...I'm probably over looking something....can this be done..... any advice would be greatly appreciated and thanks a ton in advance.....out

I'm not quite sure exactly what you are asking here. Reading through it, it sounds
like you want to know how to make the MPC 4000 record the notes that you
are playing on the A6?

If so, then you go to the "Main" mode

And in the "Track" block , you will see where it has 2 parts that can be defined.

Go to the 1st part and turn the jog wheel and you will see it jump through the different
internal parts. It will then scroll though Midi port A-D

If you have the A6 connected up to Midi Port A, select Midi port A and select the Midi
channel 1 if that what you have set up on the A6. Then the sequencer will play any notes
that is has to the Midi Port A and Midi Channel 1 and will play the A6.

When you are in "Overdub" mode, it will play the notes that are already in the sequence
as well as record any additional notes that you add, as it is "overdubbing".

SO I assume when you say "Echo" you are referring to something in sequencing?
If not , are you looking to use the MPC 4000 as an FX processor to give a Delay/Reverb
to the A6?

I think we need more details exactly what you are wanting to do. THe term "Echo" is
putting me off?

I"m not quite sure at this point, if you are wanting the MPC to

1) record midi notes from the A6 into the MCP 4000

2) Sample or record the sound from the A6 into the MPC 4000

3) Process the A6 wihthe MPC 4000


If you can detail more , perhaps one of us can help you out.

Sorry about that...let me clear it up..try at least, right...I'm not looking for any FX....you were right in the first case.......example of what I'm trying to do......for simplicity's sake....say I have a sequence that has a kick and a HH(samples from within the 4K) that are assigned to pads 13 and 14 going at 131bpm 4/4....... now... I want to lay a bass line(notes) to that sequence and I want to use the keys on the A6 to do this instead of arranging them on the pads........so say I hit the "Overdub" and then while the kick and hh are going I play the keys on the A6 to that tempo and have the 4K "echo" back( or record) those notes that I just played......does that clear it up at all or just make it more confusing????

as far as connections I have the midi "A" out on the 4K to the midi "IN" on the A6..... and I can now play notes from the pads ....and the midi "OUT" of the A6 to the midi "IN" on the 4K.....is this correct?

In the track section(Int) I have=

Out 1: (A)
Out 2: Part

does this shead any light on the subject......or am I chasing my tail....

If you just want to use your keyboard as a midi controller to input the notes in the track on the MPC(using the sounds within the MPC sampler), just connect the midi out of the keyboard to the midi in of your MPC only. All you are doing is recording note messages into the tracks which trigger the samples in your mpc`s sampler. Also make sure you have the track assign to the right midi in A/ B.

Now if you want to use the sounds in your keyboard then keep your current midi in and out connections but turn the local out on your keyboard off. Whatever you play into the sequence will track the sounds on your keyboard just make sure the audio outs of your keyboard is connect to a mixer or soundcard so you can hear it playback. I recommend to read the newbie bible that explains more and get a Basic Midi book by Paul White or Emilie Mensache and you will understand midi more in no time flat.

Thanks for the response......I've got the "Basic Midi" book...good reference...forgot I had it...thanks for the reminder...I'll have to tool through it later.....at any rate I'll have to try what you suggested....... right now I have the A6 set to "local" midi.....so you're saying I should shut that off ( which leaves me "global" midi)....play the notes and I should hear them played back....I've got the audio out hooked up to a Eurodesk...I'll post my finds tomorrow.....thanks again.

Hello, Hello....Well I tried what was suggested......I had the midi out of the 4K to the midi in of the A6 and vise versa....when playing a sequence, in overdub......in the step edit page/matrix......I could see the notes appear and being recorded when I hit the notes on the key board...this is a good sign.....however they would not play back....I probably need to look into the channel settings on the A6...?..the pads will play the A6 and I could still arrange that way....just can't get the notes to play back when using the keyz....is there something I'm missing in respect to the part: or TRACK section....(settings)any help would be great.....I know I'm over looking something simple.....
