Upgrade from 1000 to 4000 or keep 1000 and buy sampler?

My first mpc ever is the 1000. I have about 100 beats and a lot of kits programmed. I want to add a HW sampler to my gear list.

My question is, is there any way, like a third party app, to transfer programs and sequences from the 1000 to the 4000? I don't want to redo all the kits and it would be nice to transfer my beats. Or, would I be better off buying something like a z8 or one of the big 3 Japanese workstations to go with my 1000. I use Ableton Live and Logic so I don't need another sequencer or all the presets a big workstation would have.

I want a HW sampler that I can create and play keyboard patches on because I need portability and I think the 4000 could give me everything I need in one box. I almost bought the 4000 but at the time there was a lot of complaints about the unstable OS. I don't hear all that noise anymore so I guess Akai has made the 4000 OS stable.

The sounds and kits you made on the 1k should be compatible since the 4k uses wave files just like the 1k. The sequences will be standard midi files so those should be compatible as well. I dunno about the programs though, since the 4k has different parameters and filters and what not....

You could use one of the AKAI samplers with the 1000 using MIDI. The sampler for building, tweaking, storing your samples and programs, then use the 1000 for sequencing.

Akai has stated to me in an email, that they are planning on in a future OS, to have the
ability for the MPC 4000 to play MPC 1000 Programs (it can already handle the sequences,
and samples). So when that is implemented, you should be able to tranfer your stuff
to the 4000 and whala.

Of course, I wouldn't by it until they've implemented it, as you don't want to purchase
something with the hopes that the company will do something, you have to like the product
as it is now.


I have heard that the MPC 1000 can handle MPC 4000 Drum Programs, but not Keyboard programs. So you would need to convert them from Keyboard to Drum Programs and
then they can be used on the MPC 1000.

That's exactly why I didn't buy the 4000 b4, it offered everything I needed at the time but I didn't want to buy it b4 it was stable. I didn't know that you could have keyboard parts on the 1000 unless you are talking midi. I think I will wait a little while and see what Akai does. I don't want to redo all the programs and I can get a lot done quickly on the 1000.

You can't that is why you would have to convert a MPC 4000 Keygroup to a Drum Program
before it would play on the MPC 1000. It'll work fine, it will just be layed out as a Drum Program rather then a KeyGroup.

Oh, I miss understood you. I wont go back and forth between the two machines. If I get a 4000, once I was up to speed, I would sell the 1000 so no need to go from 4000 to 1000.
