Hi,

I plugged in my Flash drive and my MPC will just freeze it won't load it and it's scaring the shit out of me. I turned it off since it just wouldnt unfreeze and when I restarted it it took way longer to load. Why does this happen lol I thought I could use any FAT32 Formatted flash drive ... did i just break my MPC?

What drive is it?

Samsung 3.1, sorry for posting after a little bit of research I figured out the problem. Thankfully no fault of the MPC, just that 3.1 is not compatible with 1.1 (Slave drive for MPC). Easy fix, I'll just have to find a 3.0 or lower USB drive

That was going to be my first guess. You're using a modern usb drive with old 2004 technology.

Glad to know you fixed it.

Let us know if you find a good place to purchase older compatible drives for a low price.

Maybe we can make a list of flash drives we know that work. I'm guessing most drives usb2.0 or lower work.

You could also use one of the microsd to usb adapters which should work fine as well. It'll save you time in fishing around for a "usb 3.0 thumb drive" or to some equivalent.

Get them on new egg. I use the Sandisk 32GB Cruzer Fit USB 2.0 Flash Drive for like $11.99. They work good, small/short so they don't not stick out from the machine. People tend to bump into the longer flash drives and end up breaking the flash drive and usb port.
