Controlling MPC 4000 or Z4 with Sysex

Hello,

I would like to send real time sysex messages to my Akai Z4 via my midi keyboard. I have done this extensively with other pieces of gear but never with akai. I have read thru the "Z4/Z8/MPC4000 Sysex Protocol Specification" document and have had some response from the Z4, but need further instruction to get it fully working.

An example of a parameter I'd like to control is on page 19 of sysex spec doc. "set filter cutoff frequency".

Is there anyone out there who has done this kind of thing and could tell me how to control this parameter?

Your MIDI Keyboard is can send sysex?? What model is this?

I'm using a Novation SL mkii. Yes it definitely sends sysex. I've done it a lot with other synths from the 90s.
