Word on the wire is that Official beta testing has begun in Japan for the 4000xl. It seems that the box will contain a whole new look(Yellow and Black) and feel(brand new layout), and that all of the bugs that have been reported thoughout the last year or so are going to be fixed. The 4000xl has been created to be used in conjunction with new proprietary software from Akai so that you can sequence and edit using the full screen on the monitor of you choice. Lexicon and TC works cards will both be available for efx plugin, and sample editing is a snap with new cut and paste warp features + drag and drop time strech control/formant shifting. The 4000xl will appearantly accept and generate Rex, Aif, Acid, MP3, WAV and Akai file formats as well feature backwards compatabilty with ALL previous MPCs! A new button and feature called the Bumpalator(created in conjunction with DJ Primiere and Pete Rock) will actually assign samples to a program and create a rock solid virtual sequence automatically for a starting point. It will even kill and replace wack samples that are accidentally loaded in by the user and replace them with a more savory sound from it's extensive HD library/database of over 5000 samples. The 4000xl is slated to drop sometime in mid August 2003.
