sata drive help!

i purchased this StarTech.com IDE to SATA. i connected it but my screen is dim now! what could be wrong?

Most likely the display ribbon cable slipped from the mainboard connector.
Even if it looks connected, a small fraction of movement may displace it.
Or if you removed it from the socket, re-insertion may have failed.
Be careful - it‘s a fairly sensitive item...

i unplugged the sata power an the screen went back to full brightness

what is your screen brightness potentiometer at ?
