yo i just played wit the as-10..why cant?

That damn machine can record while the sequence is playing. thats gansta. why cant the mpc-4000 do this and do you think an os update will work that out. i am upset. the producer does work for timberland and he showed me how easy it is to do his music

I've always LOVED that feature. I used to do ALOT of RAMTRACKS up in the ASR10 and it helped alot. That's one of the reasons why I keep it. Among others but that's a favorite.

But mpc4000 CAN record (midi,audio)while the sequence is playing.

it can record while in play mode? say it is so

on trigger from bar 1 with the sequence

i am talking about in the sample menu. i dont believe it i cant wait to go home

go to main page hit play then go to sample page and sample the end

I'm just curios, why do you want to sample while the sequence is playing? Do you want to record tracks that the sequencer is playing or do you just want to record vocals or something while the sequence is playing just to make sure your samples are in perfect time with the sequence? I guess I'm just trying to see if I'm missing a technique or trick that everyone else uses. peace.

while your sequence is playing go to record page and scroll through the choices...you can absolutely record while the seq is playing

Yeah, of course you can sample while playing back stuff on the 4k. If you didn't know this even though you own the 4K I'd recommend the manual. Really.

the whole problem is i want it to record perfectly just like midi. so when i hit record the sampling starts on point. jonespnice there is a secret to that. sometimes on a module such as the fantom with xpansion cards they have hits and different things that you might want to multisample. and when your at another studio using different gear and you dont want to dump in there studio. you can take the sound with you by recording the audio in the mpc. i figured it out last night. take for instance track 1 is out a ch1.

record that as midi first then record it back in the mp as a loop. to get a perfect loop make sure the sequence has the loop feature off when in record mode and the threshold should be set so when the first note is played it records on point. hopefully that helps you out. I just feel that some producers hate when you do a good beat over there spot so when it comes time for you to come back and dump the damnn thing they dont want you to use the module and if its old how can you get that sound back.

Hi, Yes you can do this. It's fairly easy on the MPC 4000.

Here's what you need to do.

1. Select the "Main" page and hit play and make sure that what you are hearing is what you
are wanting to sample. Mute the selections and do what's needed to get to the point where
you are hearing what you want to record. Then hit stop on the sequencer.

2. Select the "Record" page

3. For "Input Source"
Turn the dial , so that you are recording/sampling the "Main Out's"

4. Select under "Record Start" , "Threshold"

5. Select "Record" or F6

6. Set the "Threshold" level , I think you do it with the dial, set it very low so that it will
start as soon as any sound is recieved.

7. Press Play

8. It will start recording as soon as you press play, count 4 beats or 1 Bar and at the end of the 4th beat press stop. Now you have a perfect 4 beat/1 bar loop.

Their is also a "Record Start" option of "Midi" in OS 1.50 and onwards, that will start
recording as soon as it recieves a midi signal. I use this method to get perfect samples
of my external analog equipment. The Midi note on the MPC starts and the MPC starts
recording at the same time as the external instrument starts to play. Of course for input
source, you'll want to change the above from "Main Out" to "Analog In" or "Digital In" depending on what you are recording from.


Hmm... it is a nice machine

ill have to try that midi option. i couldnt get that to work.
