Controlling Cubase SX transport/playback from 4000 Question

Hi

I got the 4000 after having a 2000XL, and immediately fell for its excellent sequencer, and have basically proceeded to make the 4000 the hub of the studio, whereas before it was Cubase SX2.

However, the one thing it can't do to any level of satisfaction is track down vocals. I'd ideally like to record these into Cubase as an audio track, but have the 4000 control the playback of these vocals..... so if I start playing back a sequence or song, it will automatically start Cubase off playing the vocals from the right position in the song.

I presume this is a job for Smpte or midi time code or something. I've got SMPTE on both the 4000 and the USB midi interface I've got linked to the PC... so is this something I can get working easily, and if so... how?

Yeah thats the way to go! I have Nuendo 2 synced to my MPC and it works really great! I sync them with MTC (MIDI Time Code) and I have set the MPC as a master, so Nuendo follows the MPC. + I make a long sequence (200 bars, depending of the lenght of track off course) on the MPC. So now I dont have to go into song mode all the time.
MPC's clock is real tight!

MPC -> Go into song mode, go to "sync" hit window key and set the sync out to the right MIDI port and set it to MTC and the right time resolution, for example 30 frames per second.
Cubase -> You have to set the sync in to MTC and the right midi port and time (30fps) under "MIDI", "synchronize".. i think.. Or read the manual wich came with Cubase, its a nice, big pdf ... Search for "MIDI time code"

Yeah I'd lazily posted without even trying (imagining it was going to be the usual cubase headache)... but I did what you said, and AMAZINGLY it worked straight off.

It's kinda cool using the 4000's transport and seeing cubase jump around like the puny-slave-piece-o-cr@p it is.
