Hmm...
The "Next Sequence" page is used to pick which MPC 4000 sequence that you want to
play next. It allows one to switch from 1 sequence to another. It's one of EXTREMELY
useful tools that the MPC 4000 has, the ability to switch complete sequences on the fly.
I don't believe that it works on external sequences at all.
It is something that Live4, Logic, Cubase , etc... do NOT have. As far as I can see, those
sequencers are all Linear based sequencers, with NO way to switch sequences. (Same limitations of the MV8000).
You load up "Stairway to Heaven" on Cubase and you play "Stairway to Heaven". I don't know of any way to switch it to "Living on a Prayer" sequence wtihout hitting stop on the
seqencer, then selecting the "Living on a Prayer" sequence Window and then hitting play.
(if there is a ways to switch sequences on the fly on these programs, please let me know).
So with that said, with Cubase/Logic/Live not being able to switch sequences themselves
at all, then hooking the MPC into your setup, is not going to provide this functionality to
these programs.
BUT....
You can do it the other way around.
The MPC 4000 does have a feature that you can select, where you can tell the MPC
4000 to switch IT"s sequence when it recieves a program change.
So for example, you can set Sequence 1 to have Program Change 1 assigned to it.
And you can have Sequence 2 to have Program Change 2 assigned to it.
What this does, is allows you to use Program Changess in you external sequencer program (whether it be live/cubase/logic/mpc2000/rm1x) to change the sequence
on the MPC 4000.
This would allow you to control the sequences of the MPC 4000 from an external sequencer.
Does that make sense? Let me know if you have any questions....
Now there is 1 possible change in the above statement. You CAN use the MPC 4000
to turn on and off different individual midi sequences in Live 4.
As in LIve 4, the Midi sequences
act the same as the Audio loops. Load up your song in LIve 4. On MPC 4000 "MAIN" page, on an empty track, select the Midi Port and Channel that is connected to your
computer.
In Live 4, click on the "Midi Learn" button in the upper right hand corner. Now
select a midi sequence that you want to trigger. Now hit one of the pads
on the MPC 4000. Now select another sequence on Live 4 and hit another pad
on your MPC 4000. Now click the Midi Learn button back off on LIve 4.
Hit Play on Live 4 or MPC which ever is your master.
Now hit the first pad that you had assigned. As you can see it triggered the start of that
sequence on the LIve 4. Now hti the other pad that you selected above. Now both Midi sequences on Live 4 started. You can hit the first pad again to toggle the first sequence off and just leave the second sequence going. The pads willl toggle these on or off.
This is how I am able to use MIdi tracks that are a different lenght then what my MPC 4000 sequence is setup on , until Akai implements the individual track lengths feature.
same steps above can be used to trigger audio or midi clips on LIve. Now Live 4
is so much more userfriendly and playable when hooked up to the MPC
