will the new os fix the fx? ive heard the sound is great but the effects need to be reprogrammed...i need a 4000.

The FX *levels* were fixed in a recent version of the OS, and that works fine now. What's left is the somewhat boring/crappy FX algos that were used, but those are not considered a bug, at least not by AkaiPro I think. What I'm saying is, I don't expect them to be changed.

I get good results with reverb and delay from the FX unit, so 90% of my FX needs are covered anyway.

MPC4000 Version 1.70 Release notes

New features

MULTI's created with V1.70 cannot be read with any other OS Versions under V1.70.

General Fixes
1. MULTI CHANGES (Bank Select and PROGRAM Change), have gotten faster.

2. Mass data transfer via USB through akSys is more reliable.


Sample Mode
1. The start/end points in the Trim/LP and Region page can be moved freely

2. The Q-LINK sliders (Q5, Q6) can be used in the TRIM/LP or REGION page to determine the Start/End points of samples.

2. Sequence change with pgm change: NEXT and SUDDEN added.
* Next: changes to the next sequence after the current sequence is finished.
* Sudden: immediately changes to the next sequence.

*Program changes can be set through MIDI channels 1-16 (dunno if i translated this right either)

MAIN Mode
1. When the TIMING CORRECT and WINDOW buttons are pushed simultaenously, the TIMING CORRECT window pops up automatically.

2. Track mute Out 1:, Out 2:, In Field, MIDI OUT A~D Devices can now be stored in the MPC 4000's flash memory.
a. When MIDI OUT A~D is chosen, Device: can be found pushing the WINDOW key.
b. DEVICE LIST: The popup window is now indicated
c. STORE (F6) opens the STORE Device List window to set your devices
d. DO IT (F5) stores your devices into the flash memory of the MPC4000
Hint -> When the new sequence LOAD is complete, it is now rewritten to the DeviceList of each sequence.

3. The Locate function can now be assigned freely.

MIDI Mode
1. The MIDI filter page (F2) in PROGRAM CHANGE was added.

2. The MIDI filter page (F2) contents can be saved in the FLASH memory.
a. The MIDI filter page is in of MIDI mode (F2)
b. When you push STORE (F5), the STORE MIDI Filter popup window is shown.
c. When you push DO IT (F6), the contents of the MIDI filter page are recorded to the FLASH memory.

bunch more bug fixes but i didn't have the patience to sit through and decipher them. i don't know any japanese, but was curious as to what was gonna be on the new os so i'm just sharing what i think are decent translations. again, i don't know japanese and guessed on a few parts so if im wrong, oh well.

Well done I had my girl go over some of the list she didn`t have the patience either. But it`s mainly a bug fix. The only big features are going to have to wait until Akai get`s the programming up to scratch. But Askys fix and others are great also.

i wish it was more exiting than that !

The AKSys transfer bug fixed sounds like a good one to me.

I hope that’s not all the new features the new OS has to offer as well. Whatever happened to the so-called remix features that Blue Haze mentioned in an earlier posts a couple of months ago? It was supposed to add some features that the MV-8000 currently has. Also what’s up with the audio tracks…did Akai scratch that off the list? Hopefully Akai will drop that OS soon and all our speculations will be put to rest.

It`s has been postponed. The 1.70 is mainly bug fix. Remixing is still great on my 4k like back in the day. Just like I said before Akai programmers needed to rebuild the new features again to get it stable and New Years over here is like Christmas vacation it wasn`t ready for the holidays. Sometime in March now for the remix features. But now the oldtimers some of the 2XL features have been transferred and the askys fix will be a great plus. Most important thing rather than waiting on the updates stressing just learn more workarounds to use what you have to become the master musician you want to be. It`s the man not the machine that matters. Still can`t say all the features because I don`t to be the bringer of bad news too. Anyway just bang on. Madlib uses a SP303 and still makes hot tracks, its the man!!!!!

Well I guess that gives me more time to learn the ins and outs of Ableton Live. At this point in time it is more suitable for my needs and has most if not all the features that I need to make my tracks and do remixes. I’m glad I am able to use the MPC’s pads, sliders, and knobs as a MIDI controller for Live. So they compliment each very well. I can always fire up the MPC when I’m not in the mood to use the computer. It’s good thing to have choices!!!

I would think so just set up a midi port driver option along with a rewire adaptor and walahh. off course I make sond so easy but I do think its possible.

Well the new feature list doesnt blow me away either, i expected at least to have some audiotracks in the new OS.
I wonder whats the deal with that new sudden function though. I mailed akai once about it
