I think the way you can use the Q-link sliders in OS 1.70
to adjust sample/loop start and end points is a very nice touch,
very ergonomic - the sort of thing which really genuinely enhances productivity

However I was thinking -
it is still a pain to have to do the "SHIFT + BLOCK CURSOR" keypress to
choose a zoom level before using the Q-link slider.

So I thought - could they not assign the Q3 and Q4 knobs to control those zooms?

And then I thought further -
if this sort of thing is possible,
are there not numerous other pages in the GUI where default Q-link
slider settings would be very useful?

Can anyone think of any?

Personally I'd find the FX much more usuable if the Qlinks were by defaul t assigned to each FX parameter (most FX don't have more than 6 parameters to tweak)
....that would make it so much quicker to tweak an FX to the sound you wanted.
I'm sure there's scope for some default q-linking in the various program pages too?

any thoughts?

the RS has realtime editing of midi events zo..

a Qlink note mode:

6qlinks to controle 6 parameters that are already editable realtime

Velocity
Durancation
pitch/transpose
shift note
swing

zo it would have to be in seq-edit window, hit the pad/note u want to edit and voila ..not sure if this is such a realistik suggestion ..

but if they set up a note input via step sequencer...hmmm

Perhaps they could also upgrade that wee lady who tells you to wait as the progress bar sails by....

....give her a few new outfits, change her hair?

So you want Asian stick figure porn, hell why not add a few other women and make it a lesbian orgy?

Feline1, welcome to the site. Despite what I said to you on the Yahoo group so long ago, your input is very helpful.

I haven't been around for a while and I most likely won't be back again for another week or so due to family illness, so I hope to come back to some great info all you guys have. I just found out 1.70 is out!!!

You'd need a bigger LCD for that.

Well I think we could fit a nice senario on the screen just as it is, I mean how many nurses are we talking here ?? besides you can only controle a handfull of dildos with 6 qlinks anyway ...

By Altopiano Tue Jan 11, 2005 8:35 pm
... so 3 nurses eachone 2 qlinks!? ... anyways all great suggestions fro q-links and faders above ... controllin velocity, duration, and so on would be phantastic ...

nicone too imo .... or i was thinkin let the block cursor keys in sample trim and region windows just give the option to zoom in and out (without havin to press shift button) ... one could use the jog only to scroll within the few blocks in those 2 windows imo ... but i guess felines suggestion is even better ...

for q-links i been writin some suggestions a while back which i just copy here (its not only q-links) ... forget about the eq part - coz i dont think we will ever see it .... but dang wouldn't it be nice?!!!

Part/Pad Mixer

I don’t know if AKAI does intend to ad an equilizer to the 4k. however its been one of the most wanted features and would imo simply be an additional great feature for the 4k.

In my opinion it would be great if the 4k would have in its mixer mode 2 more additional pages with a part and a pad equilizer (with similar features as the eq implemented in the Effect Mode)

They could somehow look like this:

Pressing f3 in mixer mode there could be an eq for the selected part with

q1 = hi freq
q2 = hi gain
q3 = mid freq
q4 = mid gain
q5 = low freq
q6 = low gain

To complete it q2,q4 and q6 could get a double function (selectable for example with the window button) which could also be used to set the q value

Pressing f4 in mixer mode there could be a similar eq for the selected pad!

Furthermore I got some wishes on how to improve the improved part/pad mixer in OS 1.51, which would be especially great for live applications, it contains 2 misc features for the part/pad mixer (first 2 chapters) and 3 mixer/q-link features

3.1

1st misc feature for part/pad mixer: knob/slider function in part/pad mixer can be set to somethin like offset/replace

This feature should allow to have a setting in misc mode which allows one to set the knob/slider functionality in a way that the currently controlled slider affects a part/pad only if it crosses its already set value! For example: if i would like to fade in a beat and my drumbeat is assigned to part 1 whichs amplitude is currently 0 and controlled from the slider and the slider is currently on the upposition it should only affet the part/sampler amplitude when the slider reaches/crosses the downposition.

3.2

2nd misc feature: pad function in pafr/pad mixer = on/off.

This feature should allow to set the pads either to change parts/pads or to play the sampler! This way– once in mixer mode - when selecting which part q1, q3, q5 should control one just has to hit the pad and doesn't have to scroll over with the cursor (and once in the part/pad mixer in a lifesituation one maybe doesn't want to play the sampler but just fade in, fade out beaz, ad fxs, pan! it would all be much quicker this way!)

3.3

There are 6 qlinks! In my opinion it would be great to control all 6 knobs/sliders in pad/part mixer. For example there could be a two channel strip from the part/pad mixer (containing both level, pan, fx)! It could be implemented somehow in a way that once in part/pad mixer mode the always nice to switch orange window button should get a functionality to allow switching between the part/pad controlled by q1,q3,q5 or the part controlled by q2,q4,q6! Pressing the desired part/pad it could be selected very quickly!

3.4

There are 6 active knobs in q-link section which currently in mixer mode are unused but could be. 2 could be used for mute (imo the top one) and the other 4 could also get used!

The active knobs over and unther the sliders (q5,56) could be used for assgning/muting parts in a way that 4 parts can be controlled at the same time (assuming that point 3 gets implemented, otherwise it would be 2 parts to be controlled at the same time)! This could work similar as on a dj mixer the crossfade slider and would allow one to comtrol 4 beaz at the same time, with a variety of possiblities! Operation: when active is on a part/pad is selected switching it off it gets muted and since it is the selected one by pressing another pad its part/pad can be activated! When the slider is on the up position it plays part 1/part2 or pad x/pad y 100/0, when in the downposition part1/part2 or padx/pad/y 0/100!

Ideally it should be possible to automate/record those features in step edit!

The thing with EQ:

digital EQ usually sounds a bit dodgy,
and if it sounded as bad as the EQ on the built in FX,
no serious musician would use it!

So there'd be little point Akai including it in a professional quality machine like the MPC4000 unless it sounded good....

By Altopiano Wed Jan 12, 2005 5:22 pm
kinda agree feline ... there are other things which are more important ... but still: with 10 outs only not all of the sounds comin out of my 4k can get its own eq - no doubt - there are workarounds for that ... but sometimes it be just nice to ad a bit of eq on those sounds not havin its own out, or in the case when samplin main outs sometimes a lil bit of internal eq before would be nice ... another good thing of them would be that eq-settings would be saved with your songs right away ... however generally i agree digital eq ain't the maximum - and usin q-links for other stuff would be better ... such as for trimin and settin regions as it is now is great imo, and there are other things which it could be used too .... things comin up here inserting velocity, duration as glide pointed out, havin the possibility to crossfade between parts or pads with sliders or knobs, 2 channel strips from the mixer (volume, pan, fx send) available at one time ... can't think of anythin alse atm ... and to be honest i still think 6 qlinks are little and i still hope one day akai will buildt some sort of 16 knobs, 8 sliders qlink extnnsion board ... i d buy it right away ... anyway bangin beaz with 1.70 :lol:

OK in trim window

Q1 being Zoom in/out

Q2 Region select

Q3 & Q4 loop start & loop end

Q5 & Q6 Smaple start & end

man you'd hardly have to touch the jog dial or cursor buttons, just working the sample with knobs...
