Partitioning the IDE HD

Is it possible to make 2 or more partitions on 1 of two 40GB HD's in Windows XP for the 4k?
My second 40GB HD where the samples are, is allmost full. So my song disk should split into 2x 20GB. 1 for songs, 1 for extra samples.
Has someone done this before?

No experience, but I remember reading in the manual somewhere that logical partitions on a HD will be treated as separate 'disks'. So there's a good chance it will work.

But why two partitions? Can't you simply make two folders at the top level with names like 'sounds' and 'songs'?

I don't see the reason in partioning your 4000's hard drive either. It's not like you have video files on one and MPC files on the other. Or different Operating Systems on each that you're switching back and forth from. I agree with Rob, why not use different folders to seperate your files?

I think it loads faster when the partitions are smaller, less folders, less data, less power used. I think if 1 partition crashes, I think I might have the other one intact. I think its cooler to have different partitions. I dont like to travel thru lots of folders. I think I like things organized.

I dont think if one partition crashes you will necessarily save your data in other partitions.
