foot control messages

anyone know how to use external foot ctr messages as a zone selecter? cant seem to find it in program mod.

the functions you can assign to the MPC4000's Footswitch 1 and Footswitch 2 sockets are listen on pp121-122 of the Reference Manual.

I don't see "Zone Select" listed there amoung them, so you're out of luck.

You could always raise a feature request for it....sounds like a quite neat and useful thing to be able to do, if a little obscure

sorry ill explain in detail: i have a rolland hihat controler that sends "foot control" messages in relation to its height, i want the mpc to play a half open hat when i hold the pedal half way down at, say foot control messages 1-50.

Now, as for your crazy-ass ankle controller or whatever it is:

what you need to do is look up in its documentation,
what MIDI message it sends out
(is it a MIDI continuous controller message, for example)

You can then go to the MPC4000's program modulation matrix and map that MIDI controller message to the Zone Select message you want.

foot ctrl....value(0-127)....1


Rolands manual convieniently tells me how to plug it in and...well....Thats it.

mabee rolland and akai use the same manual writers!

well I took a quick trip to http://www.midi.org/about-midi/table3.shtml

the "Foot Controller" message is, in more technical terms,
MIDI continuous controller No.4

So map away with that in the Program Modulation Matrix and you should be laughing.
(NB continuous controllers have a range of 0 to 127.
Does your pedal just jump between two values though, for open and closed?
You'll have to experiment with the modulation depths in the matrix and the Zone page to find the right threshold for changing your zone -
but with the distinctive open and closed hi-hat samples, it should be easy to hear when it works)
