Adding a hard drive and cdr to a LE

oi just added a 30 gig hd that i had lying around its a maxtor and i sony cdrw and i can get it to work the loading time when first power on is really unsually slow(searching auto load) and after wards it wont detect the cdrw
but it say unknown voulume for the hd is there some thing i did wrong or is there a specific type that will only work i hadve the hard drive set as a master and the cdrw as a slave ?? anyone can help thx

i dont have the list of compatible drives but it cant be any working drive. try formating or wiping the entire drive first and if that doesnt work you'll have to buy a drive that is compatible.

Akai never did seem to be able to explain why all IDE drives (hard & CD) weren't compatable with the MPC4000 - but some certainly don't seem to be -
Akai did maintain a half-hearted compatability list for a few months in 2002,
but then couldn't be bothered any more.

ughmm..... whenever i try to format it freezes i press do it but it just stay in that screen till i press cancels? anyone know what drive are compatible

No, I just told you!
Nobody does know a definitive list.

Since Akai couldn't tell us what it was about their implementation of IDE drivers was buggy (maybe they never knew), it's impossible to deduce whether or not an IDE device will work without just trying it out.
No-one on planet earth has the time and money to go trying out every IDE drive in the werld with an MPC4000, I'm afraid,
so the best you can really hope for is
to get your Akai dealer to recommend one which they've successfully used,
or buy a drive on the sort of deal that will let you exchange it for a different one if it doesn't work.

And yes, that DOES suck a bit.

I have a 120 gig Western Digital HD 7200 RPM in mine and it has worked perfectly since day one!

When installing the HDD and CD drive make sure that you set the jumper on the CD drive to slave and HDD to master. If you still get unknown volume then the HDD you have is incompatible.
