Thoughts about the OS update that was postponed.

I was wondering why the operating system update that was due last oct.\nov was postponed, was it that the ran into unexpected problems and couldn't finish it by november or was it that they heard about the mv8000 OS3 being released around the same time (like how when sonar4 was due to be released, cubase sx3 came out just a couple weeks before)? Did akai want to add even more features than they originally decided, just to outdo the mv8000? Competiton is the catalyst that makes companies reach far to improve their product beyond their competitors.
When the new OS comes out I expect to see major features added not just to the mpc but also to the aksys. Peace.

I guess akai would reply that it wasn't postponed as they just released os1.7. It's hard to say if they postponed any features as none were ever confirmed. Maybe they tried stuff that didn't work/turn out as planned/needs more work etc?

OS 1.7 is not even officialy released yet as far as i know, it just happened that someone sneak into their server to get the dl link...

It`s offical on the Japanese site.

Around Feb/Mar if the coding is right for the next os.

Well , we all enjoy new unexpected features, but as a Company, Akai
has NOT indicated that they would be providing any new features. As
a matter of fact, I've never seen Akai make one comment on OS 1.7
that it would actually come out, it just showed up. We just happen
to have a nice source on this forum that has been kind enough to share
with us, internal Akai info, that he does NOT have to share with us.
Of course that info is not official and not
confirmed.

Until I see features physically on my MPC screen, I'm going to concentrate
on what feature I do have, as any future features are speculations.

There is no guarantee of Akai's existence tomorrow as is the same for
any other company. Better make sure the MPC that you have today
is the MPC that won't mind having tomorrow.


Now if tomorrow it ends up being a more improved MPC then all the better
for us. I believe that most of the original specs are finally covered, so
we have the machine the Akai promised. Anything else are nice gifts.

I know that Akai has indicated on the DPS forum (i know you can't read it)
that the AutoSampling feature has been implemented. Not sure
if that's one of the items from the original list. I used to have a paper
ad for the MPC 4000 but can't seem to find it anymore.

Samples too large to fit in memory can be streamed directly from a hard disk, allowing the use of entire melody lines, long sampled phrases and the like (Not available with OS V1.0)

maybe we'll see it when they introduce 2.0
