My MPC has stopped recognizing my hard drive. It spins up then the MPC seems to freeze un able to do anything. I've just bought a brand new Maxtor 40gb drive and that is the same. Any ideas?
My old drive is Seagate. I put it in my pc and loaded windows on it so i know it's ok. If i put the Cd Rom as master it seems to take ages to read a disk or find the drive. Once the hard drive spins up the mpc locks and you can't do anything at all. I got it to work after leaving it for ages. But if you try to do a Format , it will not do anything. does not want to commuicate down the IDE.
This problem seemed to happen over night;. If you don't put any drive in it at all it works fine. May be there's a motherboard fault? Is there any way to reset back to factory settings? I've noticed a jumper that says prog on . Whats this for ? any ideas. It's near the Cmos batt.
Also when you do a search for SCSI devices the bar does not move acoss, should it? the figure just says please wait. I've not had much time on the thing since i bought it. Was working fine when i got it .
cheers
Neil
