Memory ammount is a joke. MPC reacts too slow!

Is your MPC4000 slow too?? I have 400mb of memory and when I have loaded like 50mb ( +-15% of memory is full) my MPC begins to react very slow. Ecpessially when sounds are triggered! This is very annoying IMHO. It happens when you use the sequencer from the 4k. But it also happens when I use the MPC as a sound device and trigger his samples from another sequencer.


I want to pan, adjust volume etc while my song is playing! Not after I stopped the track. ..Its a pain really..


Try to load a 30mb piano, a 5mb bass and some drums and extra sounds. You´ll see that the mpc is too f*ckin slow.
No offence to Akai, but (SERIOUSLY) my Pentium 2 266mhz is faster than this MPC4k!! And I am really not joking..


So, whats the advantage of having 512mb of memory if the machine is slow when 50mb is loaded??

( To be honest, I am very pissed off by this. Because it is a lie that the MPC4000 can handle 512mb of memory..... It cant even handle 50mb of samples!! ... )

... Their goes my dream of having the ultimate sampler ...
I was so excited.. you know ... Logic to sequence and mpc to handle all of my sampling needs.. ..Guess not ..

I guess you haven't been paying attention to this forum (though I thought
you had because you have many posts). There have been reports
of this same issue showing up with OS 1.7. Do you get the same
results when using OS 1.60?

So it was sounding like a known bug. You could prove it by downgrading and verifying.


I don't have 512mb but I do have 256mb and at a live show last year,
my MPC 4000 was loaded up with about 240M of RAM and had know
problems. This was with OS 1.7.


If it works fine for you in OS 1.6, is there a specific reason why you HAVE
to be on OS 1.7?


If you're just using the MPC 4000 as a Sample Module, have you
thought about selling it and buying a Z8? Takes up less space in your
studio and has more Q-Link knobs !

yes I have considered a rack sampler
no. OS 1.5 and OS 1.6 gives slow screen redraws. OS 1.7 is slow but no slow screen redraws. So I dunno.. But I havent noticed before that it was THIS slow.. ya know.


Oh and if I was paying attention to this board, I wouldnt have as many posts.. Its the other way around

I HAVE 512 MEGS AND NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM,WITH 1.6 OR 1.7,MAYBE IT'S A MEMORY ISSUE OR HARDRIVE...IF IT'S THE ORIGINAL HARDRIVE FROM THE FIRST BACTH OF MP'S THEY MADE THAT COULD BE THE ISSUE,I HAD TO CHANGE MINE AND SINCE THEN KNOW TROUBLE AT ALL!

maybe the ram yeah. But cant be the hard drive as the mpc doesnt stream from hd. it does everything in its memory
I dont have an identical pair. I have 1 from 128 and 1 from 256mb. 400 in total. they are not double sided either (if I remember correctly)

Test: If you load a multi instrument from around 30mb. When that program is triggered and you scroll thru the parameters and adjust some values...., does it react sloooooow?
I had this also in OS 1.51, OS 1.6, OS 1.7 and OS 37.899 ( )

dont really get what you intend wiht slow
- if you intend slow playback of audio then no
- if you intend slow speed of the change of parameter values whilst turning the yogwhell then yes i sorta noticed that too ... and imo that hasn't always been ... with 1.51 or earlier i felt it to react quicker ...
