Driving The 4000?

I need to transfer a ton of sample files onto a drive the mpc4000 can read.... Can I read drives that are formatted by the mpc on my mac or is the dformat not compatible?

I dont wanna use aksys becuase the transfer is to slow and unstable to transfer 80 gigs....


Any suggestions are eagerly welcome... Im pulling my hair out. I need these sounds, it was a big reason I got the 4ooo.

wont happen. the mpc uses the fat architecture which is basically windows based. your best bet is to transfer a small amount at a time.

you need to format a hard drive in FAT32 format (that can be done on any PC working under Windows XP, I dunno about Apple computers)

this is really simple to do, once again all you need is a friend (or maybe a computer shop) that will do it with a PC and then transfer all your files

I guess if you asked some kind of computer store to do it, they'll probably charge you a small amount of money or do it for free 'cos it s really not much to do

the only thing is that it can take a little time (like 30 minutes to format the drive, and then a few hours to transfer all the files if you are transferring from a CD Rom drive, it will go faster if you transfer from a DVD Rom or another hard drive...)

Dudes.........you can just buy a usb harddrive with no need to format shit right off the bat.

couldnt you just take your harddrive out of the mpc...........put it into your friends pc computer.......put your mac files on cd.....and drag and drop. Not that difficult. but maybe a short cut you might wanna risk (opening your mpc)

Or get an external usb hardrive................drag and drop. files from cd to harddrive

BUt for some reason i think mpc can read mac harddrives. otherwise akysys would be pointless to use on a mac.

like a usb stick.........you can use it on both macs and pcs. So maybe try a giant usb stick like a 1 gig.

Or search for a plug and play mini hardrive.

??Not sure if this will work. But it says plug and play and support for both pc and mac....................I know sometimes pc wont read mac files.......but akai format is universal so you should be good. Similar with my usb stick........photoshop (psd's) can be read by both mac and pc when saved to the same usb stick.

Keyword to look for is "plug and play" or "hot swappable"

Give it a try, and return it if id doesnt work. Open it carefully!

BTW. now i use an external usb hardrive 40GB .....and its very nice...really fast.

Be sure to make sure "no external power supply required" as youll have too many chords laying around. But my mpc powers the USB HD just fine.

take the drive out the MPC put into a windows computer. That is the fastest way. I transferred gigs and gigs over ak.sys and it took forever and reset many many times. Then I had to check what files didn't transfer and start over.

you guys are missing the point. he has a mac formatted drive that he wants to put in his mpc. not gonna work.

Ive got the usb 2.0 drive..... wich im hearing I need to format on a windows xp machine.... then use this machine to copy all my files to. At that point ill be able to install this drive into the mpc and all should be fine...

one more thing just for curiosity, try it without formatting it first.............just to see if it will work.............might be worth the try. Im not sure if you had done this already; but why waste the time to reformat it? all you gotta do is plug it in.

I thought the MPC 4000 was a USB 1.1 machine.....?
