sample editing, regions ???

Hello good people,


I just started messing with regions, and slice sample functions on my mpc4000.

HOw do you listen to the individual regeions, while you are stting the start & end points?
I know it has to be something I over looked.

up until now I have been using recycle. I just want to learn more about the machine.

well once i've got my regions set, say into 8 Regions, i can hit PAD16 and just play that region that is selected. if you want to hear say REGION 2, jogwheel to number 2..

it's really simple i think. i don't use recycle anymore...i don't see that there is really any advantage.

no dice.

no matter what region, or pad I press, the whole sample plays.

hmmm....strange! for me it goes like this:

example, 2 bar loop with 17 pieces.

1.i first arrow down to: REGIONS: 1
2.hit window, select the amount of REGIONS to 17
3.by having the number of REGIONS selected on can move thur 1-17
4.by hitting 'PAD16 PLAY', i can hear which ever region is selected.
5.you can move your 'start' and 'end' points as needed
6.go to 'Slice Selection' in Edit

that should work. on your top row of pads you can see: PAD13 Loop, PAD14 P>to, PAD15 P>FROM, PAD16 Play

peace. I got it. I did not ever notice extra function on the top row of pads.

you can also use the Q-Link slider to scan through regions as well (ver. 1.70 only).

just hit Shift + Block Cursor (up or down)...the longer you hold the Shift + Block Cursor command down, the larger the increment your Q-Link is going to control.

now hold the Active button down on Q-Link 5 (Q5) and move the slider....bamm. doesn't really get me all that excited because i do a lot a 'micro' editing. so i need the trusty jogwheel for that, but a lot of other user seem really excited about this. (bells and whistles dept.)

You can do micro editing with the Q-Link sliders as well. It's just up to the Zoom level that you are at. I like to use the sliders while the sequence is playing and adjust it by hand. You can get some nice odd sounding rhythms by using different start and end points and the sliders can sometimes help you find things that you wouldnt' have done normally.
