Needles & Frequency Response - Using a Numark PT-01

I've only very recently started sampling from vinyl into my MPC 4000. I bought a Numark PT-01...portable turntable to go "digging" with, its the only turntable I have and I've been using it to sample the records with.

I know that the PT-01 probably wasn't built to have the greatest sound quality and was built with portablity in mind, Because the sound sounds very "thin" when sampling into the MPC 4000... hardly any bass, very nasal sounding.

My question is Does anyone know what the frequency response of the PT-01 is and IF I bought a real turntable and used a real, quality needle would my sampling sound much better? Im guessing the PT-01 freq response is not 20hz - 20kHz.

Also... does anyone use a turntable with digital output into the s/pdif option for their 4000? thanks

I m no turntable expert but I can tell you this:

portable turntables are OK to play records in a shop (eventhough the diamond on it are generally kinda wack and cause a lot of wear on the records)

but to sample from it s wack

you gotta have a "real" turntable with a good cartridge (at least a Shure M44-7 ) to have a richer sound
