OS installation - Whats going wrong?

- Ive connected the MPC via USB
- Uzipped both the OS Loader and the OS 1.7
- When i click on the OS loader it reads "A Z4/Z8 sampler or MPC4000 was not found on USB"

Whats the problem?

did you install the usb drivers? sounds like you didnt.

thats what i was trying to install
the USB drivers on forat and on the cd i got with the 4k are all un-clickable files. except from the notepad ones. how can i run them files?

Yeh i did. Both installed "OS Version 1.70" and "OS Loader" for Windows.

That page dosent even have the USB driver.

But ive allready got Ak.sys installed. I reinstalled it anyways. Iama try it again and see if it works this time.

It comes up with the same sh!t.

U see the USB yeah, it connects to the PC from the back of the MPC4k dont it?

retry everythin - uninstall all and retry! that must work!

download everythin necessary from here http://www.akaipro.com/int/download/aks_dload.html there s also an installation guide - and they describe it also quite at the beginning of the aksys manual. and make sure you got the right drivers for your pc. maybe some pc issues? what are you runnin? how old is it? xp? 98?

one more thing maybe. after installing the drivers. shut the 4k down - and switch it on again. pc should see new harddrive now ...

also dont use usb hubs - i dont but i read there are issues thisregarding ...

and - you wanna install 4k os only atm?! if nothin helps - burn it to cd or and usb stick!

cant think of anything else atm.

tryed it again, still the same problem. Iam on XP.
Havent got a CD-ROM, but i use ZIP, can i install the OS via ZIP??

Okay daSoof, here goes step by step:

1) Disconnect the MPC from USB, pull out the cable.

2) Open this webpage
http://www.akaipro.com/int/download/aks_dload.html

3) download the following file and save it to your HD
akmpc4ku2.zip
(8kb Version 2.00 of the USB device driver for MPC4000 ak.Sys)

4) unzip both files from akmpc4ku2.zip to an easy to find location on your HD.
akMPC4kU.inf
akMPC4kU.sys

5) plug the MPC4000 back in
XP should now find the MPC, recognize it and prompt to install the MPC
Follow these steps/options:
> Install from a list or specific location (advanced)
> don't search, I will choose the driver to install
> Have disk
> Browse >> choose the directory you unzipped the two files into
> select akMPC4kU.inf
> open
> OK
> Next
> Finish

The MPC is now installed and ready to use with ak.sys and the OSloader
If you follow these 5 steps it should work.

i just put it zip and installed it with that. no hassle whatsoever.

I think my eror was that i searched rather then to select a file when XP asked for the driver installation.
