At the moment I'm just filling up my hard drive with all my sample CD's so the sounds are permanently on the 80Gb drive.
In my other thread I described not being able to get my CDRW to write and did a burn through Aksys and my laptop instead.
It got me thinking though, whether I'd need the CDRW once I get all the CD's onto the MPC4000, and whether I'd be better off fitting a removeable caddy to the 5.25" slot instead. I've done this on my Akai DPS24 and it works a charm. It means you can have a running back-up of the main drive should anything go wrong with it. You basically put an IDE drive into a caddy that can be removed from the machine.
Actually, while typing this I'vejust thought of another thing. Maybe you could simply mount the caddy where the CDRW currently is, and use that as the internal drive (just set the jumpers right).
This way you could actually remove the drive from the MPC, put it into an external USB2 box, and copy the data from one caddy to another really quickly.....
