Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

I just bought a MPC4000le. I'm not new to the MPC's. Just need to know if I need to format the new hard drive again that I been working off for a few days when I try to upgrade the O.S. to 1.71 . Will it corupt any samples, programs, or sequences that I already saved to this hard drive. Is 1.71 the best O.S. to date to use? If possible explain how I will do this process. I do know that I can download the O.S. from akaipro.com. Thanks.

Use 1.70. 1.71 has bugs. My 4000 locked-up for the first time ever in two years under 1.71. Lost something important. Brings a tear to the eye.
Anyway an easy way to do it is to download the OS from akaipro.com. Save the file to a cd-rom. Put cd-rom into the 4K. Go to <load> page. Select <CD-ROM> Select the file 1.70. Hit <do it> follow direction on screen. Simple.

Hey thanks for the info. I'll get the 1.70 O.S. I think this one has 1.40. So far so good but I don't want to stick to this O.S. I already added a 80gb hard drive, Cd-rom, usb floopy, and usb zip. So really it's no longer a LE. Actually I'm looking for Another MPC4000LE (one for the studio and one for home ideas) I have two MPC2000xl's that I'm about to put on the auction block. Would love someone to trade a 4000 for two 2000xl's. Wishful thinking. Word.

Man now I see a new post that 1.60 O.S. is better.
