Has anyone ever used V-Drums to trigger samples off of the MPC through MIDI?

Well I haven't, but it sounds like a very cool idea to me

This week I was thinking what it would be like hooking up an electronic drumkit to the MPC.
I also wondered what kind of sound-design I would do for it. I think it would be really nice to dive into the very dynamic drum programming and play at good level kind of sound with a lot of drum layering, velovity zones and velocity/controller-nr driven modulations.

But I definately do not have enough space left here for a (V)drumkit...

It's planned in the future for our group, but waiting on the drummer to save up the money for a V-Drum kit.


Have been using an Old Yamaha 4 pad drum trigger box that works pretty nice. Great for live work.

If we ever get the drum kit, i'll post a review here...

I too would like to hear from others who have already done this.

yeah its easy. just run th midi out from the module in the mpc and bang them pads

Yeah... the wiring and stuff is easy and fun but I think the game really starts when you are not "just" triggering sounds from the MPC but when you decide to take it a step further and design the overall playability of the instrument (vdrum+MPC) as well. The parameter mapping used to create the dynamics in your drumsound (modulation matrix + zones/keygroups) should match your drumming style and it has to fit in with the sound of the rest of your band/music. But once you have that running I believe it will be fantastic.

Some of the main differences is the Sound Module that comes with it. Since you already have an MPC 4000, you might want to consider the cheaper one for $1000 since you arleady have your MPC.
