with akai sys u can. put the disk in the 4k then do all the saving with akaisys then send it to the 4k hard disk

I don't think you can use aksys to save an AKAI fomat cd-rom directly to the mpc hard drive. You also can't drag and drop AKAI folders to your pc hard drive. You have to load the programs into memory then save manualy. If you have enough RAM you can load the entire cd-rom then save to the hd, but you loose the folder hirearchy which is very important in keeping sounds organized.

I fooled around with chicken systems last night. It allowed me to save to the pc hard drive, but you have to translate it into something else first. I choose to translate into S5000 format, since that is basicaly what a 4K is. I did an entire cd-rom in a matter of minutes. Then I draged the folder into aksys and it copied to the 4k in about 7 min. The problem is that when I tried to load a program, none of the samples loaded. I'll mess around with it again tonight. Maybe I did something wrong.

Ok, i figured it out. Cop you a copy of CDXtract. It allows you to save/convert all of the akai cdrom contents to your pc hard drive. (Select S5/6K). Then use aksys to copy the folder to your mpc. The file structure is maintained and the programs seem to load without a problem. It takes a little less than 20 min. to transfer an entire cdrom to the 4K. Much better then manualy saving programs.

I use cdxtract extensively. It works great. Convert your akai disc, then use ak.sys to transfer.

is cdxtract really workin 100% correctly? .... i used it in the past and noticed that when for example dealing with s1000 akai discs or such if i convert em it makes one prog outta for example 10 that were there originally in that folder ... and if i then upload the converted program not all samples from the folder are loaded ... so either some samples were never assingned to the s1000 programs (what i cant prove coz i dont have an s1000) or the convertion of programs is not perfect ... or i fukked up the convertion by false settings ... anyone knows whaz goin on with this? (since then i upload via cd-rom on the 4k directly... but its a pain if ya have lotsof)

When I used chichen systems to do the conversion, it would only convert one pogram per folder even if there were multiple programs in that folder and as i stated above the samples wouldn't load with the program. So chicken is not viable. I haven't tested cdxtract extensively, but as far as I can tell it copied ALL programs correctly and kept the file structure in tact.
One thing I did notice is that when I loaded a multi that I made from programs directly from the original cdrom, the programs weren't recognized when i loaded them from the converted programs ( the multi displayed "?"s). This is because cdxtract changes the names of the programs slightly during the conversion. I used the jog wheel to dial up the correct proram in memory and re-saved the multi. No problem, since any multi i create from this point on will be from the converted files.

Like I said, I haven't used it extensively, but when I loaded a multisampled guitar patch it played with no problem.

I don't think it is 100% effective. But I have no control to run an experiment. To be honest, I don't even use multisamples too much, I use mostly vinyl samples chopped up in recycle.



I have used cd xtract to convert thousands of my vinyl rex files into patches for komtakt, mach 5, and my mpc

I think the the most accurate way is to use the mpc it self.

convert load into memory, then save on your hard drive.
