Silencing One Shots

Hey,

I'm having a small problem with the MPC4000, I've previously owned an MPC2000XL and made the switch about 4 months ago.

When you edit a sample's parameters, eg: LFO, Filter, ADSR envelope, etc - You also get the option to give the sample a "loop" attribute, or, you can make it a one shot.

I use my MPC live on stage frequently and have noticed a problem that I can't figure out.

Is there any way to silence (and stop playback) a one-shot once it has started?

On the MPC2000XL it was possible to do this by going to the "Record" page, this would shut off the internal sound engine and cease the playback of the wayward sample. However, doing the same thing doesn't work on the MPC4000.

yeah, im havin the same prob jues! i use alot of long samples (pads/ vxs etc) that, for various reasons, need to be triggered in one shot mode and it does send ya a bit mad when u cant mute em quickly ie. goin into record mode on the 2000. i think u missed the point gig! its not about the poly of the sound; its about finding a quick sortcut to silencing long one shot sounds that keep playing after youve stopped the sequencer. i did it once by accident. just happened to access a different page which did mute the long one shot sample. can i remember how i did it? Nope. will keep tryin and i'll post ya if i find it again. Any1 else out there got a solution?

I mean you can set a sample to play only as long you hold the pad down but I am assuming you know how to do that. The other option you might try for one shots would to be set up a blank pad next to the pad with the long sample and set them both to the same [Mute Group]. Then you could cut the sound off whenever you like by tapping the blank pad. This would function in the same way as open hat/closed hat cutoff.

Yeah, 9 times out of 10 I use the "AS FILE" option for sample playback, and simply keep the pad held down for as long as required. However, the 4000's sequencer will only allow the duration to be set to a maximum of 9,999. In theory this is a good idea, however, some of the samples I use are very long, and exceed this hard-limit. It would be good if Akai could address this problem in the next OS, maybe? (yeah right

The mute pad idea is a good one, tho not an idea solution (remembering pad allocations on stage isn't always easy....

word to Jues but for reals the solution you are looking for, has it ever existed on any sequencer?

To silence a one shot on the MPC4000 press the STOP button 3 times. This worked on all the OS's before 1.40 but doesn't work for 1.40 for whatever reason. I heard that it works again using OS 1.45 though so try it out and let us know if it works.

Yeah I heard about that "PANIC" mode - but it never worked for me, but that's because I'm running 1.40 no doubt. I will upgrade to 1.45.

I'm still kinda holding out for 1.50 (and then I will be waiting for 1.55 no doubt) but akai seem to be very unenthusiastic to get their machine running at maximun potential

Wow! it works! at least, it works when in the sample trim page. Does not work on MAIN page tho. Still looking for the majik window.
