Question for Earthmo'

Earth you run mpc 4k in conjunction with your protools rig for sequencing synths correct? If so is there anything special about your midi set up? Do you have protools set up to play when you hit start on the MPC and vice versa? Anybody who works like this holla!

What up Gigaton, yeah I'm using PT to sequence Motif, Nord Lead 2 and Roland Juno 106. I have it set up so I can also sequence the MPC 4K with PT (8 midi channels) But for a lot of beats (drums) I sequence it on the 4K and then have PT and MPC in sync using Midi Beat Clock. I find it easier to hammer out a 2 bar beat on the MPC sequencer, and then build the rest of the keyboard sounds arround that using PT sequencer. Still, you can have some tracks (parts) playing back from the MPC sequencer and other tracks in the MPC playing back from the MPC that are being sequenced by PT...at the same time. Lately though, I have been experimenting with sequencing drums in PT and not using the MPC's sequencer at all...just the pads and the sampler. Let me know if you need help with a similar setup. Its easy, but Ill have to get the 12 step program together for you. BTW, I'm still running 9.2 and have put off buying new software until I upgrade to X which should be by the end of the year if not sooner. Then I'll also start using Logic and others. Peace.

You have been working this way for a minute, now I am just getting to it. I upgraded to PT 6 and I am sort of shying away from all the other programs I have been using in order to streamline and all of that, but especially since I love PT so much and I am used to working in this manner.

So I just set everything up and it's all working and locking up nicely. I still need to add a bit of software to the powerbook so I can have my synth editors, but so far so good. All I can say is the Core Midi introduced in OSX is a dream come true. It just solved about six months of problems in the last week since switching over to X. I am going to miss some of my old pluggins.
If you are going to make the jump, anytime is good at this point. Wipe your drive and go for it!

Sorry I didnt git back to you sooner, I was out of town all weekend. I'm not sure I would have been much help with setting it up with OSX. I'm going to make the jump in the next month or so. The one thing holding me back is the loss of plugins. Not to mention all the other apps I will lose or have to upgrade. I will loose about $5000 worth. But WTF, I didnt pay for them in the first place. It just seems like a huge nightmare. My whole life is on this one computer. Oh well, I gotta do it eventually. I'll keep you updated.
