Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

How do I set up my PTLE to receive Machine Control from the 4k? I want to sequence and Transport Control on the 4k, triggering PT to play along side and in time. I can run the 4000 slaved-beat clock to Protools but I am getting a mean midi feedback loop when I try to record the midi messages sent from the 4k. Anybody know what I am doing wrong? Since it is not working I was hoping to go in backwards and just trigger PT to play when the MPC plays, but I can not get PT to start when I hit "Play" or "Play-Record" on the MPC.

Tick "enable control of Pro Tools via MMC" and you're done.

To record all you need to do is arm your track, hit the red button on Pro Tools' transport bar an then hit play on the MPC. I don't think you can put PT into record by hitting "rec+play" on the MPC (or via MMC in general). I always do it the way I described and it works for me.

If you do all the sequencing on the MPC then you might want to send MTC once your song is done. I don't know if this is better/more accurate than MIDI clock. I would probably sequence the song up on the MPC and then send MTC (or SMPTE) from the MPC to PT. It should work the other way round as well. I don't know if you want PT to record MIDI or the AUDIO out of the MPC.

I don't know about your MIDI feedback problems but I think you could try sending your "note MIDI" (as opposed to "sync MIDI") on different ports/channels....

I haven't had the problem of MIDI feedback myself and I use MMC all the time with Reason/Logic/Pro Tools.
