first, throw out the rubber mat and buy some dj slipmats, these allow the reocrd to spin on the platter freely. Second, go get one battle record that has alot of nice scrathc sounds, or 2 copies if you wanna learn to juggle (beats 4 juggles by roc raida is the best 4 learing to juggle in my opinion, I learned on vol. 1)
I reccomend:
he haw breaks (lotsa cool sounds to scratch and to sample)
Super seal breaks (skippless samples so its easier to learn cuz the record dont skip)
both of these are made by the ISP's (dj qbert and cru)
I would also grab:
Ngobilities 5 finger discount breaks (has some TIGHT loops to sample and chop)
I got a huge collection of battle records simply cuz b4 I got into porduction I was a battle DJ.
these things are gold to a producer,
most have one side of cool drum breaks, the others have cool sounds to scracth with or sample. basicaly the WHOLE record is sampleable and useable. add to that that most run less then 12 dollars, and well, try to find another record that cost 12 bux that you can use EVERYTHING on it.
its kinda my "secret weapon"
Video game breaks has tons of cool video game samples. I built a track with all NBA video game samples (dribble for kick, net swish for snare horn from shot clock filtered and used as bass etc.), plus man , rygar samples, dope, dope, dope
if you want a list of my top 10 sampeable battle records just PM me and ill hit u with it,
