Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

This is something I've been curious about for a while...

Do any of you know if its possible to (for instance) load up a loop in the mpc, and tap out the sample chop points as it plays?

I understand that you can manually assign regions and then move the sliders to your liking, but I feel that tapping where you want the chop points would be extremely easy and efficient.

If this is not possible on the mpc 4000, is it possible on Recycle? Or any other software?

Thanks for the help... keep makin them classics!!

its possible on the 4k. the feature is called grab. with it you can extract a piece at a time by taping start and stop points live. im not sure about multiple points though. multiple points might be possible using grab in reigon mode.. i dont know for sure. what i do know is that its not possible in recycle. one tip though: when you load a loop into reigon mode and set it to 16 reigons its almost always perfect on its own because it represents perfect timing with the most common used amount of notes. since drummers arent perfect you can always make some slight adjustments.

good luck and good thinkin..

Yeah Ive messed with the feature where you can manually grab the start and end points of a chop. This is real dope if you just have a couple sounds your trying to chop out of a loop... but for a sample where you have lots of chops, I feel it would be really effiecient to manually tap out all the slice points.

I didn't see the option to do this in region mode. Anyone else got any ideas?

Thats a fvckin ILL idea and is just what the doctor ordered for fast chopping.. Man I wish AKAI would implement something like that!

yeah the grab feature is probably what you are looking for. press 'play all' on the sample and just punch in your start/end points.

yeah, i know about the grab feature. The only thing is it doesnt allow you to pick out multiple points in the sample, you can only extract one chop at a time.... thats a pain in the ass. why not make something so you can chop out the whole loop via tapping it out.

Im with DecapBeats here, its an awesome idea and shouldnt be too hard to implement. Just tap where you want the splits and the press "create" and you'd get a program done... Wouldnt that be **** magic?

It'd be even better if we could grab multiple chops out by tapping succesive pads within an empty bank, and have each new start point auto assign to that pad upon being tapped...

alpha's on to something with that... that would be amazing...

Is there any hardware /software in existance that does anything like this? Or has a feature like it?

but d@mn, I'm saying what if :?: :?: :?:

Imagine the ease. Imagine staying in THAT vibe, constantly, and yes, ... even when chopping samples.

We don't need no stinking VGA ouput, we need more intuitive programming features, allowing us to look at the screen LESS, and vibe with our music,... with our whole body, MORE ...

Akai should get on it, and release a 4000 SE/SED/SEA, with a dark metallic paint job (black anyone?, maybe charcoal?), standard outs/wordclock, and a brand new ... ... O.S. 2.0/1.72 ... featuring ...

Audio burning
Chord Memory
Real Time TimeStretching
Alpha's NOO sh!t, f#@k chop shop
Among other things...

Yo! ... Akai ... let's do this like gentlemen...

Kill 2 birds with one stone, make us happy w/ new O.S., and make the 4000 SE mouthwatering enough to MAKE all the 3000/60mk2/2000xl loyalists in the industry step up...and buy, buy, buy ...$$$$$$$

All it takes is a new faceplate, and some wise, user-oriented programming... throw on a 100 GB HD, just to put that last nail in... I want Quik and Dre to buy these. 8)

Akai Pro should perfect the 4k, and ride with it, if for no other reason than using up the excess parts/components/housing inventory, and saving the $$$ it costs to create newly styled molds, and new production machines, needed for an all new 4000XL, 4500, or 5000.

F*@k all the haters, the 4000 is so close ... SO close...
AKAI PROFESSIONAL, are you listening...Brad...I'm Saying...

I'm saying what if ?

Sorry the current version only grabs for one sample, not multiple chops. On the real if you have an audio editor or Pro Tools you can already set up markers then turn these into regions.

The 4k doesn`t have multiple markers only a start marker and end marker two. If you are prepared to use it the 60, 3K, and 2k way use grab the function to extract sample over many plays.

And there are no new updates for the 4k coming for a while.

And there are no new updates for the 4k coming for a while.

Word, Blue Haze ? "not for a while" is most definitely better than "never"

I just think that would be the illest & easiest way to flip and edit samples, while staying in "The Zone"

16 possible auto-assigned, user-tapped start points, with no limitations on thier respective sample/tick placement. And the ability to do it all in one pass...wow... 8)

That is the ultimate user-friendly "chop shop" :D
