Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000
By bornagainbboy Thu Sep 25, 2003 10:30 pm
i've been learning my mpc for a couple months now but i'm just now hooking it up to my g4 mac and i've come across some problems.
i know i need to download the right software, and that it can't find a driver. I thought that it would be on the sound library or on akaipro.com but so far i have had no luck, now i'm a comp idiot and not much of an expert with my 4000 but any help would be appreciated.

What operating system are you using?

to connect the MPC to the mac you need to use Ak.sys.
download it [os 9 only] from the akai site:

http://www.akaipro.com/global/download/dloadfs.html

then install it and connect the MPC to your mac via USB, open ak.sys and you should be good to go.

otherwise, the communication is more about swapping PC formatted disks. and i am not sure you can connect the MPC to the mac in any other way.

sadly, i noticed that in OSX it is not as easy to format a floppy or Zip of even a CD like a pc file system.

i actually haven't figured out how to do that, or if it's even possible.

best thing to do, sadly like everything audio related, is reboot in OS 9 and use the old tools, in the old way until much more progress is made by mac and their developers.

hope that helps.
