I think I've been knocked

I have just bought an MPC4000 on Ebay for a very good price (£800) and had it delivered without any problems. I have been checking it over and it seems like there isn't any RAM installed at all ("0mb of wave memory installed"). I have emailed Akai and they say that it should have at least 16mb as standard. I have also emailed the guy I bought it from but haven't heard back from him yet. Isn't there supposed to be a CD sound bank with it too? I haven't got it set up to the rest of my gear yet cos I'm currently moving studios so I haven't tested it properly. I don't want to start giving this guy negative feedback on ebay just yet. Please can someone give me any advise on what to do next?

0 mb = something is really wrong. 16 mb is the least amount of ram there should be in it. If he wont answer your emails give him negative feedback if thats all you can do. If you live close to him go pay him a visit, and get your money back. It sounds like it needs to be looked at by an AKAI technician...

I'm gonna be well pi$$ed off if this guy has ripped me off. Unfortunately he doesn't live that near to me but I have his details so I can find him if I need to.

Well, the 16 mb isnt "sitting" in the regular ram slots, its on the mainboard somewhere, and isnt sold without it. Thats why AKAI told you it should have atleast 16 mb of ram in it, because thats how it leaves the factory. This isnt to be mixed up with the ram you can put in the machine yourself. What Im saying is that he didnt simply take the ram out, because thats probably VERY hard for a non akai technician to do. A good bet is that he managed to destroy something in it when he opened it up and thought to himself "**** ill sell it on ebay".

So, if your machine says 0 mb its definately something thats wrong with it. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Your best bet is to get the money back or send it to AKAI so they can fix it and send the bill to him.

And for installing some ram in it, I dont think thats gonna do much. Im no tech guy but I think those 16 mb is there for some OS related "work".
