Probably need to run it through some sort of mixer first. Also make sure the ground wire is connected.

I sample from turntable digital out to my Pro Tools digital in, edit the samples and then load the samples to akai.sys. No problems at all. If you have a ground on the turntable ground it to the MPC 4000, that should help.

Donjay, Why do you sample into Protools. Why not straight to the 4000. What editing tools are their in Protools that are not in the 4000 (i.e. truncate, crossfade, mix, etc.)
I know this is a stupid question but what is Akai.Sys. Does that map out the samples so you can load them in MPC Program format?

My guess is faster/easier to cut and chop on the pc sometimes.

I sample from tt directly into my 4k. the preamp is nice and I get no bad noise. I have the tt grounded to the mpc ground...sometimes I export via ak.sys to soundforge (if I get lazy and don't record near where I want and just record a whole passage instead and dont' feel like spending time guessing trim points)...but I've had no problem using nothing but my headphones, mpc and turntable to make tons of tight beats

I just got in the habit of editing my sounds on my computer, and using all my plugin's I got, to process my samples, and plus I like to have a big screen to look at my samples, in-stead of looking at them on the MPC. It's just simple and quick for me. Plus Lampdog showed me like that, and I have been doing it every since.
Its not called Akai.sys, my mistake, it's called Ak.Sys. I just thought the Ak stood for Akai. Ak.Sys the software you get with the MPC 4000, or you can download from akaipro.com, lets you drag and drop all your samples,multi,programs, midi files from your desktop to your MPC 4000 memory. It also lets you edit your samples in your favort wav editor for editing.
