Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

Will the MPC4000 play and load MPC2000xl programs (using WAVs) and sequences easily?

my problem is that I have a used MPC4000 coming to visit me. I've never used one and the seller doesn't know how it works (that's why he's selling!). I'm wondering what will be the easiest way for two idiots to figure out if it all works as it should.

Does that MPC4000 have a hard drive? You could test the sounds on the drive if you know how to create a Multi and assign a Program to a Part. Better yet...just tell him it doesn't work and that you'll buy it in its damaged condition for $500.

no hard drive but it has a CDW so I can burn some 2000xl stuff to a CD easily enough

unfortunatley I've never used ay other Akai sampler apart from the 2000xl (except the s900 but that's a another story)

The filters on the MPC4000 are very different. You could end up with very strange results, if you manage to get any sound out of the machine. That's OK. Lower the offer price to $400 and tell the seller you will have to spend hundreds and wait months for it to be fixed. Then go buy a hard drive after you get the MPC in your studio.
