Sampling

When sampling do you sample through a turntable mixer or through your wokstation, like say a 8 track or something?

just looking for some ideas on getting a better sound. Right now I got this stanton turntable mixer but I aint to impressed w/ the sound from it.

whould I be better off just sampling from the turntable inputs on the mpc and then eq w/ my digital 8 track?

I'm gonna do some experimenting but in the meantime I'm lookin for some ideas. What process do you cats go through when sampling?

personally I sample directly to the 4k, the convertors are great, the sound is very sharp and detailed and I'm free route the signal through my mixer compressors ect anyway I want and resample it if I need to..

its safer to work with dry signals as you'll have more controle, but its a free world.. there's no right or wrong only your opinion, go with what sounds good to you

Always record with the shortest possible signal chain. The AD converters on the '4ooo are very high quality - introduce any other preamps into this equation and you will simply be "dirtying" the signal path.

I would also reccomend leaving out the EQ on the way in and adding it later from inside the MPC

thanks jues..so that explains why even after checking the levels w/ my mixer and making sure the levels were straight on the mpc that it still sounded like shit as in slightly loud and distorted.

I've owned and was fairly comfortable working my way around on a 2kxl but this 4000 aint no joke. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed w/ this piece but it still makes learning fun.
