Newbie with some questions

Hi Everyone, this is my first post on this forum, and I have some questions...


I'm considering taking my first plunge into the world of MPC's for live use. I currently use an EMU E6400 Ultra (128Mg + ADAT) and a couple of Alesis MMT-8's for live sample and sequencing, but I'm thinking about replacing these with an MPC 4000.

First, is this a good idea (probably a silly question for this forum )?

Secondly, is the MPC4000 the best choice compared to the others?

Thirdly, what would be the best way of transferring my work (sample and sequences) into the MPC?

These questions are very difficult to answer as none of us know your or your setup personally.

1. Yes, the MPC4000 can help you here, it can be upgraded to a 512Mb sampler with 60+Gb HDD and internal FX. It also has Multiple analouge out, A-Dat out, CD Writer and other expansions avaliable.

2. Yes, it's the most technically advanced, if that's what you were inferring.

3. Samples can be transfered via the computer (USB connection to the MPC4ooo and Akai's own AKSys software). Sequences can be convereted to midi sequences and transfered in a similar fashion, although it would probably be a better idea to re-sequence them on the 4ooo in the long run.

I suppose what I really meant by question 2 was, have Akai made any silly decisions with the MPC 4000 which might make either the 2000 or 1000 look more appealing?

I realise that the 4000 is the best speck on paper and the most expandable, I just wanted to make sure that there weren't any silly show stoppers hidden within...
