Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

Yesterday evening, night, mornin, ... I have connected a friends virus b rack synth (http://www.access-music.de/products.php4?product=virusb) + his midi keyboard to my mpc 4k! … simply a fantastic combination  ! … but combined with some probs!
My set up was as follows: (by the way! sorry for my bad English, my message might therefore be slightly long)
Midi Keyboard to midi in A at the Mpc 4k! Midi out A (MPC) to Midi in Virus (+Midi clock send to virus)! And finally midi out virus to midi in B (MPC) – to record some control changes from the virus at the mpc!
Problem 1: we were not able to play both instruments contemporaneously! In the midi page (Mpc) you can’t route the midi in signal from the keyboard to the virus whilst playing percussion sounds at the mpc with the pads at the same time! So we could just play the part or channel selected at the mpc either with the pads or via midi keyboard! Question: Is it somehow possible to play both instruments contemporaneously?
Problem 2: recording control change messages from the virus at the mpc! having connected mpc (midi out a) to midi in virus (to send recorded midi notes to the virus) and midi out virus to mpc midi in A (to record control changes) we got a midi crash! Disconnecting the midi keyboard to the mpc we were able to record control change messages from the virus at the mpc! But then again when connecting the keyboard to play other channels at the virus again we got a midi crash! So we disconnected midi out virus to the mpc in A and managed somehow! But this connecting and disconnecting of midi cables is annoying! And I hope (and I am quete sure) that it is somehow possible to let all cables set in the same way! maybe someone out there knows how!
And: Someone has experience with midi mergers? Maybe a small midi merger such as
http://www.netzmarkt.de/thomann/thoiw2_ ... 34105.html
could solve both problems?
Hopefully someone out there can give me some advice to solve these probs!
chears mates, thank u in advance and wish u great beatz!

Ok, I have a Virus C, V-synth, Turbo Phatt, and a Mtif Rack hooked up to my MPC as well as a Orbit, and Audity 2000. How I do this is with a MIDI XT USB 8 IN an 8 OUT. I set it up so I can recieve the incoming messages into my MPC from all my units. I would get something with software such as a MOTU Midi Xpress because you can program a user bank to allow midi messages to go to certin channels. The software is Clockworks. Its a little in dept but once you get the hang of it, its nearly limitless.
It looks like in your setup the MPC isnt recieving midi event data from the Controller, so you need to look into the midi controller if it has SYSEX disabled.

I've never tried this...but does your master key have midi in? maybe you could route the out from virus to the in on master key and control changes on virus will be made through master key at the same time you're playing master key midi data to mpc...maybe not..dunno. Why not just record the keys then record the tweaks? NOt like you're in a live performance trying to do this, or are you? If so you might just need to invest in a midi controller with assignable knobs and sliders (like a radium 61 or better etc) and assign those knobs sliders to control the parameters you're tweaking on the virus while playing ...
